BIOGRAPHY

Joan's formative years were spent in England’s West Country, a small village near Salisbury, Wiltshire, where Constable painted the Cathedral, growing up in this area she was bound to have the love of art as one of her passions, now she finds the inspiration of her art in Canada with all that surrounds her.

Joan came to Canada in 1981 and opened her present studio in 1984 where she currently instils her love of painting to her child and adult students. At this time she devotes about 18 hours a week to teaching her own techniques in oils, acrylics and watercolour. She also organizes and teaches one-day workshops on demand.

Joan’s paintings are a reflection of a combination of stimuli, how she was feeling at the time, the way she saw her subject physically or imaginatively, if the result was to be abstract, semi abstract, impressionist or realistic, all of these preconceived ideas can change as the painting progresses and to some extent takes on a life of it’s own.
